Question

My 8 year old daughter has been sleep walking a lot lately. Is this something that I should be concerned about? She tends to come off as really tough, especially when she is hurting about something and I'm concerned it may be something psychological. Should I have her see a medical Dr? A psychologist or a psychiatrist?

Answer

Charlotte Cowan, M.D. Replied: Sleepwalking by itself is not usually a problem for children, is often outgrown, and tends to run in families. But you clearly are concerned about your daughter and how she handles her feelings when she is hurting. I would definitely discuss both of these concerns with your pediatrician. She will know whether psychological care is necessary. Good luck!
